Indoor Games
(from ’50 Boredom Busters’)
Sausages: Get everyone to sit in a circle. The person who is ‘it’ stands in the centre. Each person sitting in the circle asks the person who is ‘it’ a question. The only answer to every question can be ‘sausages’, i.e. Q. ‘What is your name?’, A. ‘sausages’ – Q. ‘What do your toes look like?’ A. ‘sausages’. The first one to make the ‘it’ person laugh, goes in the middle. Change the word for each player to keep it interesting.
Picture This!: This is a fun game to play with pre-schoolers. Take photographs or draw clear pictures of items easily found around the house. Use the images as part of a picture hunt to lead your child from clue to clue. Leave a special prize with the last clue.
Marble Roulette: Wet a piece of single-ply paper towel and gently squeeze it (do not wring). Stretch it taut across the mouth of a plastic container and fasten it with a rubber band. Get the children to take turns placing a marble on the towel – whoever adds the marble that breaks through the towel loses.
Remember, Remember: Make up a memory game by putting a few well known objects onto a tray. Let the child look at the tray for a little while, then take it away and remove one item. See if they can remember which one is missing. Adapt this game to suit the age of the child. If they are a bit older you could get them to try and remember as many of the items as possible.
